Simple greetings between a husband who is returning from work and a wife who was at home

Father: I am home. Bàbá: Ẹ kú ilé.

Mother: You are welcome. Ìyá: Ẹ kú àbọ̀.

Father: Hope you arrived safely? Bàbá : Ṣé dáradára lẹ dé?

Mother: Yes, thank you. Ìyá: Bẹ́ẹ̀ni, mo dúpẹ́.

Father: Where are the children? Bàbá: Àwọn ọmọ ńkọ́?

Mother: They are playing in the garden at the backyard Ìyá: Wọ́n ń ṣe eré ní inú ọ̀gbà ní èyìnkùlé.

Father: It is alright, I will see them when they get back inside. Bàbá: Ó dára, mà á rí wọn tí wọ́n bá padà wọ ilé.

Mother: It is okay then. Ìyá: Kò burú.

Note: Close persons or agemates sometimes use Ẹ in greeetings to show respect to eachother. Kíyèsí: Ní ìgbà míràn, àwọn ènìyàn tí wọ́n súnmọ́ ara wọn tàbí àwọn tí wọ́n jẹ́ ẹlẹgbẹ́ ara wọn lè lo Ẹ ní inú ìkíni láti fi bọ̀wọ̀ fún ara wọn.
